The bible often referes to "This" generation....since the bible has been around for ages - exactly which generation is "this" generation.

From what I have seen, references to 'this generation' points to a time period covered by a composite sign (that is, a time period marked by certain happenings, or characteristics).

'This generation', then, applies to different time periods, depending on the 'set' of signs that pinpoint that particular time period.  Hmmm...even I don't understand that, and I wrote it.

'This generation' is like saying 'this age'....or 'this era'.  It is a period of time that readers/students can discern by looking at the evidence.  When all the evidence is considered, the reader should be able to identify that particular time as the 'generation' under discussion.

Huh???

@Mrs H,

Lolol

@Lon,

Okay, i totally agree with you.  So now when the scriptures refers to "This Generation" is it relating to us, i mean we were not, we were never "THIS Generation" when the bible was being written were we?

Fee, recall that the Bible was written aforetime for THE GENERATION that would see the culmination of events described in the Word (Romans 15:4).

So, much (most?) of what's recorded in the Word applies to the generation that would see Christ's return along with the establishment of God's Kingom  on earth that we pray for (Matthes 6:9,10).

Also, the prophecies in scripture had more than 1 fullfilment.  That is to say, there was a miniature fullfilment of prophecy, and there will be a MAJOR fullfilment of thart same prophecy.

More on this, if you like.

This generation speaks primarily about the generation found in the biblical texts itself.  But can also be applied to any generation that reflects what the text is talking about.
